Os periódicos científicos eletrônicos são uma realidade bastante presente nas universidades brasileiras e apresentam como vantagens: não necessitam de espaço físico para armazenamento, facilidade de cópia e impressão, permitindo maior flexibilidade, disponibilizando instantaneamente a informação, entre outras, aumentando com isso a dinâmica do fluxo da informação. O objetivo da pesquisa é analisar se os alunos do Curso de Letras da Universidade Federal do Maranhão/Campus Bacabal conhecem e utilizam o Portal de Periódicos Eletrônicos ofertados pelo site da Universidade. Especificamente, procurou-se explicar a importância dos periódicos eletrônicos para a comunidade acadêmica; investigar se os alunos conhecem a Revista Afluente (da área de Letras presente no Portal); avaliar sua frequência de uso e a quantidade de alunos que já publicou na Revista Afluente. Quanto à metodologia utilizada, esta pesquisa é caracterizada como exploratória com abordagem quantitativa utilizando o questionário para coleta de dados. Como resultados observou-se que os alunos reconhecem a importância dos periódicos científicos para o meio acadêmico; conhecem o Portal de Periódicos Eletrônicos da Universidade, assim como a Revista Afluente. Abstract: Analysis of the importance of electronic scientific journals in the academic life of the student community of the Course of Letters of the Federal University of Maranhão / Bacabal Campus. Electronic scientific journals are a reality present in Brazilian universities and have the following advantages: they do not require physical space for storage, easy copying and printing, allowing greater flexibility, providing information instantly, among others, thereby increasing the dynamics of the flow of information. The objective of the research is to analyze if the students of the Course of Letters of the Federal University of Maranhão / Campus Bacabal know and use the Portal of Electronic Journals offered by the University website. Specifically, we tried to explain the importance of electronic journals to the academic community; investigate if the students know about the Afluente Magazine (from the Letters area present in the Portal); evaluate its frequency of use and the number of students that have already published in the Afluente Magazine. Regarding the methodology used, this research is characterized as exploratory with a quantitative approach using the questionnaire for data collection. As results it was observed that students recognize the importance of scientific journals to the 1087 �academic environment; know the Portal of Electronic Journals of the University, as well as the Afluente Magazine. Even so, its use is still infrequent.
