Busca refletir sobre o conceito de alteridade, supondo que o bibliotecário precisa se colocar no lugar de usuário, no momento da realização da pesquisa na busca pela informação. Tem como objetivo estabelecer relações entre o tema das linguagens documentárias e a alteridade na função do bibliotecário catalogador. Apresenta o pensamento de Lévinas acerca da alteridade a fim de compreender a relação entre usuário e bibliotecário. Provoca reflexão sobre a ética no ambiente de indexação de documentos, do reconhecimento da alteridade do outro como usuário. Demonstra que as funções das linguagens documentárias como instrumentos de mediação, para facilitar a representação e recuperação da informação, devem permitir que bibliotecários indexadores e usuários de uma biblioteca possam partilhar de uma mesma linguagem. E, a alteridade pelo viés da valorização da linguagem como a que condiciona e estabelece as relações do novo e do diferente, da aceitação. Sendo que o bibliotecário leva em consideração o seu conhecimento prévio sobre o material, ou seja, o seu conhecimento pelo assunto tratado no material no momento da indexação e sua experiência profissional do que se colocar no lugar do usuário. Portanto é necessária a comunicação entre as linguagens: linguagens naturais (do usuário) e as linguagens de indexação (instrumentos técnicos) para que haja a alteridade em ambas as relações, o colocar-se no lugar do Outro. It seeks to reflect on the concept of alterity, assuming that the librarian needs to put himself in the place of the user, at the time of the research in the search for information. Its purpose is to establish relations between the theme of documentary languages and the alterity in the function of the cataloging librarian. It presents Lévinas's thinking about alterity in order to understand the relationship between the user and the librarian. It provokes reflection on ethics in the indexing environment of documents, on the recognition of the alterity of the other as a user. It demonstrates that the functions of documentary languages as mediation tools to facilitate the representation and retrieval of information should allow indexing librarians and users of a library to share the same language. And, the otherness by the bias of the valorization of language as that which determines and establishes the relations of the new and the different, of the acceptance. Since the librarian takes into account his previous knowledge about the material, that is, his knowledge of the subject matter in the material at the moment of indexation and his professional experience of what to put in the user's place.
