Os repositórios institucionais são ambientes digitais voltados ao armazenamento, organização e disseminação da produção intelectual de uma instituição, geralmente universidades ou institutos de pesquisa. Neste momento inicial, caracteriza-se como uma pesquisa do tipo exploratória com uma abordagem, buscando a contextualização do fenômeno estudado. No decorrer de seu desenvolvimento, este estudo será de natureza documental, quanto aos procedimentos. Mas desde já destacamos que a biblioteca universitária deve se apropriar de seu papel de mediadora da informação e produção do conhecimento e bem como propor indicadores que potencializem o uso dos repositórios institucionais. Abstract: It presents initial reflections of a research that aims to identify how the university library can explore the institutional repository as a tool for scientific information management, and that contributes to the development of postgraduate programs. Institutional repositories are digital environments for the storage, organization and dissemination of the intellectual production of an institution, usually universities or research institutes. In this initial moment, it is characterized as an exploratory type research with an approach, seeking the contextualization of the phenomenon studied. In the course of its development, this study will be of documentary nature, regarding the procedures. However, we stress that the university library must assume its role of mediating information and knowledge production, as well as proposing indicators that enhance the use of institutional repositories.
