Para a Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana (UNILA), cuja missão institucional é representada pela formação de recursos humanos que venham a contribuir com a integração latino-americana, com o desenvolvimento regional e com o intercâmbio cultural, científico e educacional da América Latina, as ferramentas para aumentar o tempo de preservação e ampliar o acesso à informação têm vital importância. Espera-se que o repositório venha a contribuir para o acesso livre de informações; facilitar a gestão da informação disponível em meio digital; preservar a memória institucional e ampliar a visibilidade e uso da produção intelectual desenvolvida na universidade. Este estudo visa apresentar as etapas de criação do RI-UNILA: contextualizando a Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana (UNILA); resgatando na literatura especializada informações para o suporte teórico do trabalho; apresentando, por fim, as etapas de implementação do repositório.
