A partir de convênio formalizado em dezembro de 1992, entre a Universidade de São Paulo e a Prefeitura do Município de São Paulo, através do Sistema Integrado de Bibliotecas/Faculdade de Educação da USP e da Biblioteca Braille do Centro Cultural São Paulo, da Secretaria Municipal de Cultura, foi instituído o PROGRAMA DISQUE BRAILLE. O seu objetivo é de formar um catálogo coletivo de obras ao público, da Grande São Paulo, pretendendo-se uma expansão a outras regiões do Estado, a médio prazo. O programa, que tem como público alvo os portadores de deficiência visual, se propõe a atender consultas por telefone, correspondência ou pessoalmente para localização das informações bibliográficas das referidas obras. DISQUE BRAILLE prevê dois pontos de atendimento, um na Universidade e São Paulo e outro no Centro Cultural São Paulo. Para tanto, deverá manter sua base de dados com as atualizações enviadas pelas bibliotecas participantes do Programa, buscando ampliar essa cooperação com outras instituições brasileiras.
