O Sistema viabilizou a criação de uma base de dados bibliográficos de artigos de periódicos nacionais em Economia reunindo as iniciativas de indexação dos Serviços de Documentação/Bibliotecas da UFRJ/FEA-IEI, SENAI-DN, CNI/DEC, BNDES, IPEA-Rio e BNB. A base foi desenvolvida em CDS/ISIS e contém atualmente cerca de 4.000 artigos dos 13 principais periódicos nacionais da área. O Sistema se encontra em fase de expansão e para tal pretende incorporar novas tecnologias de comunicação de dados para interconectar em rede as unidades de documentação das instituições participantes do ECODATA, assim como disponibilizar as informações existentes na base para o público externo.
